That depends on a lot of factors. A puppy-mill (pet store) puppy will run about 1,000, up front, and countless more $$ to deal with the inevitable effects of bad breeding. A "backyard breeder" (newspaper ad) puppy will run $3-500, plus (again) the vet expenses from careless breeding. (are you sensing a pattern?). A pup from a reputable breeder will also be in the $500-1,000 range, BUT there are health guarantees, and the dog will actually come from good breeding stock to begin with. A rescue dog (by the way, a toy breed dog should stay with mom for AT LEAST 10 weeks, so RUN from anyone trying to sell you an 8 week old puppy!!) will be under $300, normally, and most of the initial vetwork, (vaccines, spay/neuter) will already have been done.
