How to Start A Successful Daycare Business?

When considering starting a business, the first question on many people’s minds is how to create a service or product that will be in constant demand, regardless of economic conditions. Certainly, a daycare business can fit this description. It is an attractive option for some because it allows the daycare owner to stay in the comfort of their own home, and insist that their customers come to them. Also, because childcare is such a relevant need in today’s hard working society, it can be a good way to become a profitable business owner in a short amount of time. However, there are several things to remember, especially in the opening stages of starting your daycare. First, determine whether or not your home currently has the space and resources available to handle the demands of many extra people inhabiting it, even for just part of the day. A large fenced yard would be a huge advantage in this regard because you can use it to allow the children to go out and play in a relatively secure environment when they start to feel restless. Be clear about your rates and offerings from the very beginning. Parents want upfront information about how much it will cost to place their children in your care. Eliminate the guesswork and explain if there are any additional offerings such as meal service or early opening times included in the cost. Also, be sure to mention if you will be charging by the week, month or some other schedule so that your clients can plan accordingly. Research the applicable licensing procedures for your particular state or town. Often you will be required to show that you possess insurance, and permission to conduct business from your home. In some states, you will be required to demonstrate that you have been certified in first aid and basic lifesaving skills. Although starting a daycare can indeed be a profitable venture, be sure to conduct the necessary research before you take the plunge into doing business for yourself.

How profitable is owning a daycare?

I'm not sure the question should be profitable but how stressful. You will most likely break alittle over even. There is more cost involved than people think. The liability insurance is costly, you and your staff if you have any will have a constant medical cost with the illness spread by the children, late parents, staff that doesn't show or is not dependable. Also the registration with the local police agency has become more intense due to the sickos of our society and I believe you must contact the local health department for their requirements as well. There are other less stressful and more profitable opportunities available especially if you were thinking of a home based operation. If you do chose to open a daycare I suggest you start small and work your way up as you learn and can hire VERY dependable help, goodluck. Sincerely, Val
