Workers compensation laws differ by state. In North Carolina anyone can purchase workers compensation insurance. If you have 2 or more employees you are required by law to purchase workers comp. However even if your are going out to mowe someones lawn they may require you to have workers comp. This would releave them of the responsibility if you are injured on there property.
