That is a widely popular opinion, but the real reason for the name adidas comes from the founder of the shoe company. His name was Adolf Dassler, the brother of the founder of the shoe company Puma. His nickname was Adi and when creating the name of the shoe chose a shortened version of his name "Adi Dassler" Put it together and you get Adidas. It is actually pronouced Ahh-Dee-Das, not Uh-dee-dus.
