What is the definition of a vegetarian? |
[Edit] |
The word vegetarian describes an individual whom does not eat meat because of the horrible animal cruelty involved with the meat industry, for the health benefits or for religious reasons, or simply because they don't like the taste or texture of meat. The foods in their diet consists are plant-based.
A vegetarian does not eat any flesh of an animal. This includes fish, poultry and animal-based broth. Most vegetarians will eat dairy products (i.e. milk, cheese and butter) and eggs, but some do not. Someone who excludes all animal-based foods and all animal byproducts is called a "vegan."
Some people choose to be vegetarian and some people don't have that choice; their body can't digest the meat or handle the gelatin. Also, if a person has been a vegetarian for a long time, their bodies regect the meat and they get horribally sick.
