The research of undeveloped cells in aborted fetuses. These cells can be inserted into a diseased or abnormal part of a person's body and they can develop into whatever kind of cell they're surrounded by. This can repair and heal the affected area.

Research on stem cells continues to advance knowledge about how an organism develops from a single cell and how healthy cells replace damaged cells in adult organisms. Stem cell research is one of the most fascinating areas of contemporary Biology, but, as with many expanding fields of scientific inquiry, research on stem cells raises scientific questions as rapidly as it generates new discoveries.

Stem cells are the original cells in a human body. From these cells, all other organs form.

The best way to access stem cells is from the umbilical cord or from embryos. Typically when a couple is having fertility issues they will freeze several eggs for IVF, or will freeze zygotes or embryos. When they succeed in getting pregnant or otherwise decide not to pursue the IVF, those eggs can be donated to research.

Some factions believe that when those eggs are fertilized by scientists to get a zygote, which has the most original forms of stem cells, that constitutes human life and should no longer be used for testing purposes. They feel it is murder to essentially take the stem cells and prevent those cells from developing into a person.

Another way to get stem cells is to remove them from bone marrow, which is a very painful process.

Personally, I think it ridiculous to think that stem cell research should be banned just because embryos are involved. Those embryos would have just been thrown away. Why not take advantage of them and use them to potentially cure diseases that kill hundreds of thousands of people each year, like cancer and Heart disease?
