German Federal Republic (Deutsche Bundesrepublik) - instead of Federal Republic of Germany (Bundesrepublik Deutschland) - was the name the East German government sometimes used during the Cold War for West Germany until c. 1970. Unless you are talking about terminology used at that time, it's best avoided.

The federation of several states of the western part of Germany occupied by USA, France UK in their three sectors. Later the three occupired sectors played a minor role and Westgermany acted especially after founding the Bundesrepublik Deutschland (Federal Republic of Germany) as one country. This was leaded to the division of Germany and later in the context of the "cold war" to "the wall".

Also the Western Part of Berlin became a western sector occupied bei USA,UK, France since they wanted a part of Berlin which was conquered by the USSR. Formaly not belonging to Westberlin it was in many aspects regarded as part.
