Sounds like you're speaking of multiplexing, a method of putting more than one television signal on the same carrier, by switching from one signal to the next (usually up to eight video feeds) in a round robin style. Since the system operates at a very high frequency and the the video is running at a much lower frequency, it's possible to do this without the television receiver, satellite receiver or cable box showing any indication this is taking place. It's most common on satellite transmissions where it's now possible to send up to eight TV separate digital channel feeds in the space it one took to feed just one analog video feed.

Digital Video Editing is the process of arranging digital video footage on a timeline. The footage can come from any source as long as it is converted to digital and edited on the computer by a non-linear editing system such as final cut pro, avid, adobe premiere pro, or even Windows Movie Maker that comes with your pc. That is a really basic example. It gets far more complicated when editors start doing special effects or adding complex titles. That require the use of other programs.

What has editing got to do with the pace and rhythm of a film? This workshop will answer these questions and many more - both inside the classroom and outside of it. Equal importance is given to classroom lecture, conceptual exercise and hands-on with digital video editing apparatus.

Illustrated lectures on Principles of Editing, Theories of Film and Video Editing, demonstration of various editing styles with clippings from Feature & Documentary Films will help participants in understanding the fundamentals of film & video editing. Demonstration of professional video editing set-ups format will provide support in learning the tools of digital editing.

In the next stage we shall introduce concepts of Digital Editing, explain the Hardware to be used, provide demonstrations of Premiere Pro 1.5 and ask the students to try their hand in non-linear video editing. This will be followed by an intensive hands-on where groups of students will explore the Matrox Digisuite LE, and edit available video footage using Adobe Premiere 6.0 and 6.5. Final exercise in Premiere Pro 1.5 will test each participant's creative potential and skill in Digital Editing. Apart from Premiere, the students will be introduced to high-end systems like Final Cut Pro.

The workshop will be conducted by industry professionals with proven track record in their respective field, and this will help participants learn the tricks of the trade. Through this methodology, the workshop will create awareness about the creative potential of editing for those who wish to work in the film or television/video industry as filmmakers, producers or editors.
