Japanese anime and American Cartoons differ in many ways. The most noticeable one would be how they differ visually. Japanese anime style has more of a realistic look in characters, where as typically in American cartoons, many physical features are exaggerated. This is not true for all anime and cartoons. Many sci-fi anime's have a lot of creative exaggerations in the characters. Another good difference is that anime spends a lot of time with plot and character development. A typical American cartoon will have a story in one episode, whereas a anime will develop sometime complex character emotions (such as love triangles, drama, ect) over a period of 24 episodes (depending on the anime).
Coming from an otaku, there are many differences.
There are still a few more differences, but I can't express them right. Sorry for a super long explanation, couldn't help it because I'm an otaku. :)
You should probably reword this. It is incredibly difficult to deduce its meaning.
American cartoon comedy is most often juvenile and lacking any sophistication whereas Japanese humor in anime is often mature with double-entendres .
Well, anime is a technically a cartoon, it's just Japanese. But when you get down to it, there isn't much the same, and there's more different. Some of the genre of anime and cartoon could be the same; just not a lot of them.
Cartoon anime as video can be watched in the movie theaters, on TV and online. Cartoon anime stories with non moving pictures can be watched in magazines, books and online also.
its an anime, and it gets really creppy in the end
Techincally, both. Anime in the end is a cartoon (=animated series/movie) so as Sailor Moon is an anime, it's also a cartoon.
