Lipizzaners do not have special food they have to eat-- they eat what horses normally eat... oats, grass, barley, apples and carrots, sugar cubes, etc. As a rule, Lipizzaners must have their intake monitored very carefully, especially when it comes to grains and grasses. They have a "pony" constitution and as a result can founder very easily. Most Lipizzaners actually require very little grain and it's not unusual for one in heavy work to only require 2 pounds of grain a day for maintenance.
