I've always thought of it as, Lucifer is the name for the devil while he was God's angel. However when he turned evil, his name became Satan.
Satan comes from the Hebrew "HaSatan" which means the "Opposer". His job, as an angel, was to oppose the Will of God and call it into question, but HaSatan is not his name, just his function. (This is similar to the term "President" which is not a name, but a function.) Christians gave the Opposer the name Lucifer.

God created Satan...
"Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy." (Isaiah 54:16 AV)
His job is similar to that of a vacuum cleaner, eating dust...
"And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou [art] cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:" (Genesis 3:14 AV)
People are the dust...
"In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou [art], and unto dust shalt thou return." (Genesis 3:19 AV)
Of course if you have on the armor of God, no problem, he can't find the dust.

He was a murderer and the father of lies, (Jesus is speaking)...
"Ye are of [your] father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it." (John 8:44 AV)
So we see that the dragon, the serpent, the devil and Satan are the same person and was a murderer from the beginning.
Lucifer, on the other hand, is the king of Babylon...
"4 That thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say... 12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! [how] art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!" (Isaiah 14:4,12 AV)
As the king of Babylon, he may well be an angel similar to the princes of Greece and Persia that Daniel's instructor was fighting...
"Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the Prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of Grecia shall come." (Daniel 10:20 AV)
Lucifer will not be buried...
"Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, [and] slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be renowned." (Isaiah 14:20 AV)
Here's why...
"... therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee." (Ezekiel 28:18 AV)
The person being referred to was not a murderer from the beginning...
"Thou [wast] perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee." (Ezekiel 28:15 AV)
If one was a murderer from the beginning and the other was not, then they can't be the same person.
The guy in Ezekiel was in the garden of Eden which i why so many people think he's Satan.
But there were more than three beings in the garden of Eden.
Namely, there were at least two cherubs (cherubim)...
"So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life." (Genesis 3:24 AV)
The guy in Ezekiel was one of them...
"Thou [art] the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee [so]: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire." (Ezekiel 28:14 AV)
There's nowhere in The Bible where Satan was walking among stones of fire.
So, two different persons.

∙ 12y agoYes. Lucifer and satan are one in the same fallen angel. Lucifer is Hebrew heylel which means light-bearer, son of the morning. The Hebrew word satan is more of a description rather than a proper noun, although it is interchangeable, for adversary, as he is the adversary to man and not GOD. The account for the fall of Lucifer is found in Isaiah 14:12-20. Lucifer believed and still believes that he and 1/3 of the righteous angels whom fell with him and cast in their lot, could usurp the Authority of the LORD GOD Almighty. Of course they failed at this attempt for the created cannot defeat the Creator and GOD cast them from their positions in the Heavenly Host. The fallen angels, including Lucifer, are subject to GOD and are required to account to HIM, Job 1:6-12, 2:1-7. Why GOD has permitted their existence for in excess of 7 millennia? This is one of the "mysteries" that the Apostle Paul referred to. The Essence of GOD is HIS Love, 1 John 4:8, 16, and GOD does not and cannot violate HIS Nature or Word. This proves the extent of the height and depth of the Love of GOD, Romans 8:38-39. But, GOD does have to exercise HIS Justice for unrepentant sin. Concerning man, the Justice of GOD was poured out on JESUS on the Cross as HE was our Substitute in judgment. CHRIST can either be your Savior or your Judge, it is your choice. Concerning the fallen angels, had they not blasphemed the Holy Spirit the only unforgivable sin, Matthew 12:31, they even could have been forgiven. They believe after all this time that they can still defeat the GOD of Wonders and they do not believe the Word of GOD; such is the depravity, delusion, and insanity of sin. The Justice of GOD for the fallen angels and unrepentant man shall be the Lake of Fire, Revelation 20:11-15. The only Mercy is this side of the grave through JESUS, John 14:6. GOD Bless!
