a weld that does exactly what it sounds like, the molten metal that is created when welding is created all the way through the materials being welded.

for example, if it is a 1/16th inch steel plate, a full penetration weld would create a molten bead from the front to the back of the plate. A full pin weld is when u have a bevel on one side that u weld first flip it over arc air gouge the other side and weld that side up

Full Penetration joint = Think of standard V - Groove design. After complete welding the root weld is supposed to be having some projection of say 1 mm w.r.t. to Internal Dia. of the pipe

Partial Penetration Joint = Here think it as a partial V joint i.e. Consider a 10 mm plate, where the V groove is only 5 mm from the top.... and you weld it. This is partial welding. In this case, 5 mm happens to be 50% of the total thickness of the plate..hence it is called 50% partial penetration.

If the grove height is say 7.5 mm, then it becomes 75% partial penetration.

The difference between full strength butt welds and full penetration butt welds is that full penetration butt welds transmit the full strength. Full strength requires special preparation.

What is furnace butt welded pipe?

Furnace butt welded pipe refers to the manner in which a pipe is to be welded. The skelp itself is heated to a specific temperature in a furnace. You would then weld the longitudinal seam forge. This is a method that works on fence posts or pipes required for low pressure services.

What type of weld is it when the edge of one piece of metal is placed at ninety degrees on the surface of another piece of metal?

Two pieces of metal welded at a 90 degree angle is called a corner joint. Other common joint types: -Butt joint: two pieces of metal laid side by side and welded at the meet, essentially forming one sheet. -Lap joint: similar to a butt joint, but with overlap between the two pieces. -Tee joint: one piece is welded at a 90 degree angle to the second, but not at the edge (forming a 'T' shape).

What is a Weldolets?

A Weldolet is a butt-weld branch connection. It is designed to provide integral reinforcement and minimize stress. They are made to match or exceed the schedule of the pipe.

What is difference between weld neck flange and slip on weld flange?

http://www.tubecraftflange.com/products/slipon.htmTubeSlip-On Flanges are probably the most common type of flanges in the industry and are ideal for lower pressure applications. You do not have to specify the pipe schedule when using slip-on flanges due to the fact that its inside diameter is determined by the outside diameter of the pipe. This outside diameter of the pipe does not change for the different schedules. This often makes these easier to stock for vendors. Fabricators also like the fact that these flanges are slightly easier to align than weld neck flanges. They also are slightly easier to cut pipe to the proper length for. They can be used for high temperature and pressure applications but are not generally recommended as compared to other types of flanges. ASME B16.5 Code limits their usage in the 1500#-2500# (lbs.) weight classes.

What is the difference between butt and but?

Butt is a noun because it isn't a verb or adjective. There is no possible outcome, so butt is a noun. Also, but is a conjunction. Take this sentence. I went to the fair, but I did not ride the Ferris wheel. But is a changing direction word.
