Type 1 is called "childhood onset", meaning that the individual contracted the disease in childhood or was born with the condition. It's usually the result of the immune system attacking the pancreas causing it to produce no insulin.
Type 2 is called "adult onset", meaning that the individual did not have the disease in the past but contracted the diabetes later in life. It's usually the result of the body becomming unable to use the insulin produced. Many of the newer medications allow type 2 diabetics to get by without the insulin injections. The newer medications allow many people to again use the insulin that their pancreas produces.
I think you are confusing Type 1 with Juvenile Diabetes.
Type 1 is when the body produces NO insulin.
Type 2 is occurs when insulin that the body produces is less efficient at moving sugar out of the bloodstream. Some sugar is moved out of the blood, just not as effectively compared to a person with normal insulin efficiency.
I am a type 1 diabetic, insulin dependent who contracted diabetes in pregnancy as an adult.According to the first answer I would be considered a type 2 diabetic however, because I am insulin dependent I am not, I am a type 1 diabetic.Type 1 diabetics are people who are insulin dependent at any age.
HOWEVER diabetes type 2 can also require insulin, as medications can stop working, i too had diabetes during pregnancy and also a student nurse. diabetes TYPE 2 is when the body does not produce enough insulin to maintain a normal blood glucose level, or when the body is unable to effectively use the insulin that is being produced. TYPE 1 develops when the body's immune system attacks and destroys the cells that produce insulin. As a result the body is unable to produce insulin and this leads to increased blood glucose levels, which in turn can cause serious damage to all organ systems in the body.
type 1 is when u need more sugar and type 2 is when u need less xxx
type one diabetes is more commonly found in children not adults. you are completely insulin dependent your pancreas does not work at all you need to take shots normally from 4 to 8 times somtimes less or more depending on you blood glucose ratings a good range for type one diabetes is normally 120-150 lows varrie from around 90 and lower and highs are around 250 and up depending on your age. this can be genetic or even from a virus some causes are unknown and right now there is no cure that seems to work wonderfull but the insulin pump is pretty much a cure atleast in my eyes i know it has helped me to really stabelize my bg before i was on my AIC was 11.5 now it is a great 7.1 it has really helped me and i suggest trying it to anyone out there who is struggling with type one diabetes
type two diabetes is more commonly found in adults rather than children. most of the time you can get by with only pills sometimes insulin dependent or a combination of both. type two diabetes is normally caused from overweight obesity or excessive eating of foods that are bad for your body like high i sugars and sodium and other unnatural unhealthy foods doing excersise or loosing the weight and becoming healthy can sometimes cure the disease when in type one you cannot. the blood gloucose ratings that are good are between 80 and 100 highs are normally from 120 and up and lows varrie among the person.
what to look for if you think you have diabetes:
1) excessive thirst and urinating
2) mood swings
3) loss of weight
4) change of attitude
5) vomiting when trying to eat or just in general

Simplified:
Type one people do not manufacture (enough) insulin.
In type two the insulin is there but the body just doesn't respond properly to it (might be a auto-immune problem).
Type I is usually diagnosed early in life and requires the person to have daily insulin shots.
Type II is diagnosed later in life and is not as severe to require shots but pills are taken instead, and this form can sometimes be reversed if diagnosed early enough.
Type 1 Diabetes is a disorder in which the body does not produce insulin (a hormone that aids in moving sugar from the blood to the cells). This type of diabetes can be due to a virus or autoimmune disorder in which the body does not recognize an organ as its own and attacks it. In this case the body attacks an organ known as the pancreas where insulin is made.
Type 2 Diabetes occurs when insulin that the body produces is less efficient at moving sugar out of the bloodstream. Some sugar is moved out of the blood, just not as effectively compared to a person with normal insulin efficiency. High blood sugars are a result of this.
