A congressman represents a distrct within a state while a senator represents the state as a whole.

Technically the term congressman refers to a person from either the House of Representatives or Senate, ( in other words a senator is also considered a congressman) In practice the term congressman is exclusively used to describe a member of the house of representatives.

A Congressman is the common term for the people who belong to the legislative branch. So, a Representative and a Senator are BOTH Congressmen. They belong to Congress. To answer your question there is no difference they are the SAME.

Senators represent states while members of the house of representatives represent districts within states. Each state has two senators who are elected for 6 year terms while members of the house are elected for 2 year terms and the number of representatives from a state is based on population. Prior to 1913 when the 17 amendment to the constitution was passed there was no federal requirement that senators be elected. In case of death or resignation senators may be appointed for the period to the next general election. Some states require special elections or that an appointed senator be from the same party as the previous holder of the senate seat he will fill.
