Just a couple reasons:

*the tacos tortilla is folded in half while the burritos tortilla is wrapped around the stuff inside

*tacos are Mexican food, while burritos are new Mexican food (yes, I'm from New Mexico and there is a difference)

Otherwise, they are pretty much the same thing.

Another answer: In California and Arizona, the burritos are so big, that it would be more accurate to call them burros!

Definitions vary depending on who's using the word and from place to place, but generally:

A taco is fillings wrapped in a tortilla. The tortilla can be crisp (a taco shell), cooked soft or uncooked, flour or corn, and fully rolled or just folded. Fillings include meats, cheese, vegetables, and salsa.

A fajita is a specific type of taco, specifically one with a filling of marinated and grilled skirt steak. Tacos with other meats prepared the same way (especially chicken) are also usually called fajitas. Other fillings include onions and peppers (cooked with the meat), cheese, salsa and other condiments.

A burrito is fillings fully enclosed in a tortilla (rolled with ends tucked in) and cooked; it can be either baked or fried. Some outlets call a taco a "burrito" when they fully enclose the contents, especially breakfast tacos, even though they don't fry or bake them.

Tacos are traditional

However burritos are recent. Burritos are fully wrapped but a tacois only wrapped only once. also a taco only has one filling like beef or chcken while a burrito may have beef rice and beans.

A taco can have as many fillings as one likes and so can a burrito!! Go to Mexico and learn how to cook there before you start trying to answer questions about our cuisine!!

A taco is usually with a hard corn tortilla shell with meat lettuce and cheese in it, there is other condements of course that could be used.

A burrito is like a taco but with a soft flour tortilla, yet again with any condements that you wish it to have.

A tortilla is a major staple in the hispanic food used for alot of different meals.

A taco is composed of a corn or wheat tortilla folded or rolled around a filling.

A burrito consists of a flour tortilla wrapped or folded around a filling.

The difference between a taco and a burrito has nothing to do with fillings but how it's folded. Basically a taco is not enclosed and burrito is folded in a while to fully enclose the fillings on all sides prior to eating.

Fajitas are different from tacos because fajitas consist of seasoned, grilled meat usually served with onions and peppers. The tortillas are usually served on the side with rice and beans. Tacos come with the meat and usually lettuce and tomatoes already in it.

A burrito usually has a soft outer layer, or roll. A tortilla is like a chip. Not soft. Crispy in fact.

What is the difference in taco burrito and enchilda shells?

The main difference is the type of tortilla used. Enchiladas are made with corn tortillas, filled with meat, and then covered with sauce. Burritos are made with flour tortillas, filled with a variety of meats and veggies (lettuce, onions, tomatoes, etc.) and rolled into an 'envelope' of sorts that can be held and eaten much like a 'wrap'. There are variations and combinations of these tortillas and ingredients that are usually referred to as 'Tex-Mex'.
