I'm a social worker and former guidance counselor. If you're in high school, stay with it if at all possible. If you can get back to high school, do so. If you are out of high school and not able to return, get the GED. Why wouldn't you? Do it now. You may have no interest in higher education at this point, but you never know. Line yourself up for future possibilities. Don't cause hassles and grief down the road when you become motivated to get special training.

The GED scores range from 200(lowest) to 800(highest), 68 percent of the testers had a score between 400-600 . To pass the GED a minimum of 410 is required on any one test however an average of 450 is required to complete the test. So in all the GED and HSD are the same, the influence on the GED tests comes only from employers and colleges, they look down upon the GED because they feel it was just an attempt to pass and shows that you have no determination. They're supposed to be equivalent, but a GED is basically a huge neon sign that reads "I couldn't handle high school." You'd better have a good story prepared to tell why you went that route.

(Note: there are, certainly, legitimate reasons for getting a GED instead of finishing high school... the point is, potential employers are probably going to want to hear them, while no one is ever going to ask "So, why did you finish high school like everyone else, huh?")

for most jobs having a general studies diploma is perfectly fine but for college they typically prefer advanced diplomas
