In my opinion, Substation Is place where High Voltage is stepped down Via step-Down Transformers.

Substation is also called as Grid-Station.

WHEREASSwitchgear is Combination of CB's and Relays Which is used for Contol,Metering(measurement) and Switching.Normally it is in the form of panel. Answer

Switchgear is the collective term for circuit breakers, isolators, etc. Together with transformers, switchgear is used to switch and provide overcurrent (and other forms of protection) to the incoming and outgoing lines.

Difference between ground clearance and sectional clearance in substation?

Ground clearance in a substation is the distance between wires and the ground or other objects such as buildings. Sectional clearance is the distance between the wires themselves in a substation.

What is inter cricuit in substation?

A: There practically no massive electronics circuit on a substation. The computing and controls are usually located miles and miles away. What is there however there is a modem or a link to the main computer where an operator can monitor and act according to what is required from time to time, Operate switchgear and so forth. A substation is 90% of the time void of humans

What is the difference between the single line diagram of a 33 kV substation and a 66 kV substation and if possible then please provide the S.L.D. of both substations?

basically there will not be any difference between them. the capacity of equipment will be more such as the CB rating will be more basically there will not be any difference between them. the capacity of equipment will be more such as the CB rating will be more

What is the Difference between air insulated substation and gas insulated substation?

Air insulated substation means air acts as the dielectric medium but in case of gas insulated substation SF6 is the dielectric medium. Gas insulated substations are having more advantages than air insulated substations.

What is a switchgear room?

A switchgear room is a room in a building which contains switchgear. It is typically a locked room in the ground floor of a building where the service enters the property. It would usually contain the supply authority's meters and the main protective devices (fuses, breakers) for the building's electrical installation. The room should not be used for storage or any other use.A different answerA switchgear room is an enclosed space - within an electrical power generating station or substation - in which are located high-voltage circuit breakers, protective relays, battery supplies, etc. The types of circuit breakers located inside switchgear rooms are indoor types and not suitable for locating in the substation compound. In the UK, these types of circuit breaker are typically metal-clad 11-kV oil circuit breakers (OCBs), and are supplied from primary (33/11-kV) transformers located in the substation compound and, themselves, supplied from outdoor-type 33-kV circuit breakers in the same compound.

What are the roles and responsibilities of testing and commissioning engineer in substation?

There are a great many. but to keep it simple: (a) pressure-testing the cables/switchgear/transformers/etc. (i.e. testing the insulation using high-voltage test sets); (b) testing the operation of the switchgear; (c) testing the operation of the protective relays. ...but lots more.

What is grid substation?

this type of substation are considered important because any sort of disturbance in these substation may lead to the failure of grid.this type of substation are used to transmit huge amount of power from one point to other point in the gridAnswerA substation is a location where electricity transmission/distribution voltage-levels are changed and switching is carried out, as opposed to a power station, where electricity is generated. A substation, therefore, is a yard/building in which there are transformers, switchgear, busbar systems, and protection systems.A grid substation is part of the electricity grid system -i.e. part of the transmission system. In the UK, this involves voltage levels of 400 kV, 275 kV, and 132 kV.

How a gas insulated substation works?

This seems like a question from an electrical course, and is probably best answered by your course materials. It's your test question, not ours, and there won't always be someone to ask for the answer. Earn your diploma.

What is the difference between switchgear and switch yard?

we use switchgear for low voltage while switchyard is use for highvoltage transmission and distribution . There is an other factor known as insulation because for low voltage we should low insulation and for high voltage we need higher insulation.Cost is another factor between both.
