A sea is part of an ocean that is partially surrounded by land. If it is totally surrounded, then it's called an inland sea. An ocean is a body of salt water with no boundaries and limitless volume. It's limitless because with no boundaries, definitive quantity cannot be deduced. Between the two, the ocean is the larger of the two. Oceans are enormous when compared to any sea. The largest sea in the world is the Mediterranean with a total area of 965,000 square miles which is much smaller than the smallest ocean in the world the Arctic at 5,427,000 square miles. There are only five oceans in the world namely the Pacific, the Atlantic, the Indian, the Southern and the Arctic while there are dozens of seas around the world. Seas being close to land are generally much shallower than oceans and therefore it is possible for plant and animal life to thrive on a sea bed because it is generally lit up by light. Ocean beds are much much deeper, and support only very basic life forms like bacteria and shrimp that feed on them in isolated parts. This is because no light reaches there and the pressure are such that marine life as we popularly conceive cannot survive. Some idea of the depth of an ocean can be had from the fact that the Pacific Ocean has an average depth of 3790 meters or 12,430 feet. The average depth of the Mediterranean Sea on the other hand is 4690 feet.
An extension of saline water on the earth is called a sea.
whereas,
large sea areas are called oceans.
A sea is smaller than an ocean.
Multiple seas exist within each other.
These terms are often used interchangeably, but there is a difference when speaking of geography. Seas are usually smaller than oceans, and often partially enclosed by land. Oceans are usually found where land and ocean meet.
A "Sea" is generally considered to be enclosed by land, and somewhat smaller than an "Ocean". So, one would anticipate oceans to be somewhat deeper. For example, the deepest point is the Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean. However, one would likely find both deep and shallow spots in both oceans and seas.
Ocean's are bigger than Sea's and Sea's are normally between land.
Ocean is much larger as river get merge with sea and sea get merge with ocean
Large bodies of salt water are called seas or oceans.
Oceans are larger than seas or lakes. A sea is part of an ocean or is a large salt water lake. Fresh water lakes are smaller than most seas, although the Great Lakes are larger than some seas.
Mediterranean Sea Red Sea Indian ocean Atlantic Ocean
That's a river.
Alantic OceanAtlantic ocean
Ocean is much larger as river get merge with sea and sea get merge with ocean
Ocean
oceans are generally much larger.
it is larger because if you look on a globe you usually see a ocean body part than a sea body part
Gulf
An ocean
Ocean are larger than seas.
ocean is larger.
Ocean
The ocean. A sea is a sea because it is surrounded and barricaded by land; while and ocean is not. It's free and expanse.
my answer is an ocean is the larger than a sea because the ocean surrounds the whole world the sea is only different parts of the world.
A lake is usually fresh water and is therefore not directly comparable. However in general the order of size would normally be:-BiggestOcean (eg the Pacific Ocean)Sea (eg the Mediterranean Sea or the Sea of Cortez)Lake (eg Lake Victoria)Smallest
