Rat Terriers and Toy Fox Terriers are DEFINITELY not the same, although they have a common background and some Rat Terrier's have Toy Fox Terrier's background in their pedigrees. Well... I have a Rat terrier and a Rat terrier is a Mix between a Jack Russell and a Fox Terrier, RT have longer legs than those of Jack R. but they have the same "body type". Jack R.s have a stuby tale and Rat T.s do not.

Rat terriers are their own breed, not a mix. They are taller and leaner than Jack Russels, and have an "off switch". Most rat terriers do have docked tails, although there are some with long tails.

S well, i think i know what you mean, a smooth rat terrier, has hair, short smooth hair, and a rat terrier tho people call the breed that no matther what the hair is like :P but i think the 'rat terrier' is completey hairless, also called the american hairless terrier, they were breed from a mutation from a normal rat terrier who had hairless pups, they are cute for a hairless dog :) but they are rare and no rat terrier has long even remotly long hair.
