There are many differences between Amish and Pentecostals. Both stem from Anabaptism, but the Amish are a plain people with very reserved church services in German. Pentecostals believe in the Holy Spirit and faith healing.

The biggest difference between Amish and mennonite is the lifestyle. The Amish lifestyle defines them in their life with christ. Mennonites do not adhere to the same strictness. They branched off and followed the teachings of Menno, whom had the same religious roots (anabaptist) as the Amish. Jacob Amman however felt that the rules needed to be adhered to verbatim and the Amish began. Some Old Order Mennonites are very close to the most liberal Amish. Some only drive horse and buggies and dress plan, however liberal/modern mennonites simply dress modestly and follow the anabaptist ideals yet have all the modern conveniences and technology.

You can think of the Mennonites as reform Amish, since both groups grew out of the 1525 CE Anabaptist movement that in opposition to the Roman Catholic Church, and they share many (if not most) of the same beliefs.

The Mennonites are more tolerant of the outside world than the Amish, and they accept higher education and modern technology. The Amish, however, feel that influences of the outside world interfere with the purity of their faith. Most of them forbid higher education, dress in "plain" clothes, use no modern electrical applicances (or electricity in general), and still ride in horse-drawn buggies.

The Mennonites and Amish both believe they should carry out their beliefs in their daily lives. However, they have differences in how those beliefs should be carried out. Mennonites believe in living simple lives but do not separate themselves from society like the Amish do. They are also aware of the needs of others unlike the Amish.

There are vast differences between the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormons") and the Amish.

First, the surface differences (ie, culture and appearance, rather than religion or doctrine):

-There are approximately 300,000 Amish - most of whom live in the Eastern United States and Canada. There are almost 15 million Mormons living all over the world, less than half live in the US and approximately 1/4 live in the Western United States.

-Amish generally live in small farming communities quite separated from the outside world. Mormons live in regular neighborhoods and commingle with their neighbors and communities.

-Amish live a simple life, without electricity and many other modern conveniences. Mormons embrace modern technology and the church encourages the use of technology in worship and evangelism as well as personal pursuits.

-Amish do not own or drive cars and usually travel by foot or with a horse and buggy. Mormons usually own and drive their own cars.

-Amish have very strict dress and grooming standards, with women wearing plain colored long dresses and white or black prayer caps, and the men wearing solid colored shirts and pants with a hat. Amish women do not wear makeup, and Amish men usually wear a beard. Most Amish clothing is homemade. Mormons believe in avoiding clothing that is too revealing or which draws attention, but generally follow the fashions in their culture. You would probably not be able to pick a Mormon out of a crowd based on their appearance.

-Amish children generally do not attend school beyond Jr. High, and are usually educated at Amish schools or at home. Mormons are encouraged to get all the education they can, including advanced university degrees. Most Mormons attend public schools, although there are private religious schools and some Mormon families choose to homeschool.

-Amish do not use Birth Control and generally have quite large families, with an average of 7 children per family. Mormons believe that the number of children they have is a personal choice and may use birth control.

-Most Amish speak both English and 'Pennsylvania Dutch', a dialect of German. Mormons speak whatever languages are common in their country or culture, with the most commonly spoken languages in the church being English and Spanish.

The religious and doctrinal differences between the Amish and the Mormons are quite significant as well.

-Both churches are considered to be on the 'fringe' of Christianity.

-Both churches officially welcome new members through baptism. Amish are usually baptized in their late teens or early 20's. Amish see very few converts from the outside world. Mormons are baptized at eight years old unless they convert later in life. About half of the baptisms taking place in the Mormon church are converts rather than children born into the faith.

-Both churches call the leader of their congregation a Bishop, and both ordain only men to priesthod or ministerial positions. Despite the fact that Mormon women are not ordained, they are expected to preach and teach just as often as the men.

-Both churches practice excommunication, although the Amish are much more strict about who qualifies for excommunication and about how those who are excommunicated are treated. In Mormonism, excommunication is quite rare and excommunicated members are still welcome within the congregation and community.

-Most Amish groups hold worship services every other Sunday in member's homes. Mormons hold worship services every Sunday, usually in a dedicated church building but occassionally in homes or rented buildings if a church is not available. Weekday study groups and worship services are also common for Mormons.

-The Amish believe that the Bible is the only book of scripture, and many Amish will only read the Bible in German. Mormons use the Bible and the Book of Mormon as equally important books of scripture, and publish both in a variety of languages.

-Many Amish also hold services in German and sing hymns exclusively in German. Mormons hold services in whatever the predominant language is, and often will hold special language services in areas where there are many immigrants who struggle with the native language.

-Amish are strict pacifists and will not participate in the military. Mormons have a strong culture of supporting their nation and heritage and very often join the military.

-Amish and Mormons have many doctrinal differences as well including beliefs about the nature of God, what occurs before birth and after death, the structure and authority of the church and leaders, the second coming of Jesus Christ, and salvation.

-Amish practices and beliefs can vary between different congregations or ordnungs. The Mormon church is very unified and the same standards and beliefs are shared by every congregation worldwide (because all congregations are tied to and report to church headquarters rather than operating independently.)

-One interesting similarity is that both Amish and Mormons dress their deceased members in white clothing for the funeral and burial.
