A few specific differences between the Andalusian and Lusitano horse are:

  • The body of the Lusitanio is slightly less compact than the Andalusian.
  • Lusitanio's have a slightly more sloping croup than the Andalusian, whose croup is very rounded.
  • The Lusitanio is also not quite as low in the cannons - his legs will be longer.

These two horses can be hard to identify at times since they are so similar. You need a keen eye to notice their differences.

What breed of horse does pablo hermoso de mendoza use?

As in most "Rejoneadores" Pable de Mendoza uses Lusitano or Andalusian horses, or a cross of the two breeds, although distinct, very much same tree. The purebred Andalusian registry consists of one stud book and one breed. The Andalusian is the historical horse of the Iberian Peninsula dating back 25,000 years. The IALHA Purebred Andalusian registry accepts the three bloodlines known today as Spanish or Caballo Pura Raza Española (PRE), Portuguese or Cavalo Puro Sangue Lusitano (PSL), and a union of both known as the Spanish/Portuguese (S/P) for registry as an Andalusian. The (S) designation within the IALHA indicates a Purebred Andalusian whose ancestry traces strictly to the Spanish Stud Book, where they are called PRE. The (P) designation within the IALHA indicates a Purebred Andalusian whose ancestry traces strictly to the Portuguese Stud Book, where they are called Lusitano. The (S/P) designation within the IALHA indicates a Purebred Andalusian whose ancestry traces to both the Spanish and Portuguese Stud Books.

What is the differences between the Andalusian Horse and the Spanish Horse?

The Andalusian is a Spanish Horse... Are you meaning another Spanish breed? Additional Info: Yes and No, I don't mean another breed of horse, that is the breeds name,"Spanish Horse". The Andalusian Horse is not considered a pure breed by the Spanish Horse Registery, they believe it to be of mixed blood. Yet in other countries, such as the United States the Andalusian Horse is often used to describe the same horse, or one so similar as to be impossible to tell without papers. (even then there are questions concerning the "truth" of these papers) due to the age of the records of breedings and births. But, I've read that there are two listings for registering these animals in the US one for a Spanish Horse and another for Andalusian Horse. But I understand that the Spanish Horse communtiy will not accept this. It seems that a serious debate has been brewing about the hertiage of these wonderful animals. What is, if any, the differences between these horses? I'm not 100% sure if there is such breed "Spanish Horse". I have done alot of looking around but, cannot find anything apart from the Andalusian horse.

Strong and elegant breed of spanish horse related to lusitano used for classical dressage?

The original Spanish Horse, the PRE - Pura Raza Española - originates in Spain. It is a foundation horse in many breeds across Europe and the rest of the world, and, has had an influence on some horses in America. There are two recognised foundation breeds that come from the Iberian Peninsula - the PRE and the PSL,( Pura Sangue Lusitano,) from Portugal. The Andalusian is not a breed - it is a 'type' - and a term applied generally by people when referring to horses from the Iberian Peninsula. America has established an Andalusian registry that includes part bred PREs. Also coming from the Spanish ancestry are Aztecas, Spanish Norman horses and the mustangs, as well as genetically researched herds such as the Shackleford Banks horses, the oldest documented horse population in North America who are shown to have descended directly from the spanish horses. Separate to the PRE are Spanish Arabs. There are international registries for Part Bred Spanish horses , such as the Hispano Arab - PRE crossed with Arab. PTRVIOUS ANSWER FROM BADGIRL The most world renown of the Spanish breeds is the Andalusian; it is a very old breed, so old that it's lineage dates back before the voyage of Columbus. The Andalusian contributed to the Spanish Mustangs we know in the U.S. today. Other historic Spanish Breeds are the Peruvian Horse, Paso Fino and the Colonial Spanish Horse.

What breeds make the Andalusian horse?
