Furthermore, cross-tolerance to benzodiazepines, barbiturates, and alcohol, as well as other GABAergics, is not present either.

∙ 14y agoProzac and Xanax are 2 completely different drugs. Xanex is, basically, a tranquiliser and is along the same line as Valium and the other tranx. Tranquilisers act as depressants on the central nervous system. Prozac is an anti-depressant. Without going into exhaustive detail, the 2 drugs do different things and should not be mixed unless your MD gives you the OK to do so. Hope this helps.

∙ 12y agoNot at all... Fluoxetine is Prozac which is an antidepressant whereas Xanax is a benzodiazepine which is typically used for anxiety. Fluoxetine can take 4-6 weeks to get into your system where Xanax is an instant release. A lot of ppl take them together. Warning though...benzodiazepines are extremely addictive and withdrawl is from these drugs are horrible.

∙ 14y agoYes it can. My therapist was going to prescribe me both Prozac and Xanax to be taken twice daily. However, I prefer Valium so I am now on Valium and Prozac.
