Answer 1Answer 2Eau de Cologne (EdC)

Eau de Cologne is a local trademark for "Kölnisch Wasser" Cologne, Germany.

EdC is the term used today to refer to a perfume solution with ~ 3%-5% essential oils in an alcohol and water base.

Eau de Toilette (EdT)

~ 6-10% essential oils in an alcohol and water base.

The differences are simply a matter of the amount or concentration of oils in the fragrance. These oils are called "juice." The highest concentration of "juice" is in perfume (or parfum). Next would be Eau de Parfum, then Eau de Toilette, and finally Eau de Cologne.

After Shave has the least amount of oils. The higher the concentration of "juice" the longer your fragrance will last, and the less you need to apply.

Eau de parfum - is a type of perfume with a medium-high concentration of perfumed oils in comparison to the water or alcohol content of the solution. It is made with around 15% concentrated aromatic compounds. This means scented particles suspended in oil. Better eau de parfum has a higher ratio of ethanol to water. It is more expensive. That is because of the higher amount of aromatic compound. It also lasts a lot longer.

Eau de toilette - is a type of perfume with a medium-low concentration of perfumed oils. It is made with around 10% concentrated aromatic compounds. It generally has more water than ethanol in it. It is less expensive because it is less concentrated. If you love to wear perfume all day, you will probably find that you need to reapply at least once. This of course, can up the overall cost.

Summary:

  1. Eau de parfum and eau de toilette are both types of perfume.
  2. Eau de parfum has a greater concentration of scent than eau de toilette.
  3. Eau de parfum lasts longer than eau de toilette.
  4. Eau de parfum is more expensive than eau de toilette, though, since you have to apply eau de toilette more often, the costs may turn out to be equal.

Eau de toilette doesn't last as long and isn't as strong as eau de perfume. Hope that helped :D

Eau de cologne, deodorant and perfume are all alcoholic solutions of fragrance oils but differ in the percentage of fragrance oil and the grade of alcohol (percentage of alcohol to water).

The higher the concentration of fragrance oil, the longer the fragrance lasts. Eau de cologne is a 3-6 per cent solution of fragrance oil in a 70 per cent grade alcohol.

A deodorant is a 6-15 per cent solution of fragrance oil in an 80 per cent grade of alcohol.

Perfume usually contains 15-25 per cent fragrance oil in pure ethyl alcohol. The fragrance of perfume lasts longest while eau de cologne lasts for the shortest span of time.

Parfum: 15-40% perfume oil, up to over a whole day of perfume longevity.

Eau de parfum (EDP): 15-20% perfume oil, up to 10-16 hours of perfume longevity.

Eau de toilette (EDT): 5-15% perfume oil, up to 8-12 hours of perfume longevity.

Eau de cologne (EDC): 2-6% perfume oil, up to 6 hours of perfume longevity.

Once this is clear, you can know that this term shows up in women’s fragrance, such as Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet Eau de Toilette, DOLCE & GABBANA Light Blue Sun Eau de Toilette; and in men’s fragrance, such as Giorgio Armani Acqua Di Gio (read its detailed review at sniffantasia(dot)com/acqua-di-gio-review/), Versace Pour Homme, etc.

Go to a department store like Macy's. There are three classical strengths for fragrance. Eau de toilette is the lightest, then eau de cologne and finally parfum.(Men's aftershave is eau de toilette strength.) Perfume has a higher concentration of fragrance so it costs enough more you gotta go to an expensive store to get it.

Can you make eau de toilette from pure perfume?

The difference between eau de toilette and perfume is dilution: a perfume contains up to 40 percent essential oil plus 60 percent carrier (normally ethanol plus water) and eau de toilette is 5 to 15 percent essential oil. So...if you want to make a 5-percent eau de toilette out of a 30-percent perfume, mix one part perfume into five parts 100-proof vodka and you'll have it.
