The basic difference between the two paints is that latex paint is water-based and acrylic paint has a chemical composition that gives it elasticity. (But, there are "acrylic latex" paints, with varying degrees and properties of both.) Outside house paints are moving away from latex to 100 percent acrylic because the latter easily expands and contracts with heat and cold. As a result it holds better than latex. And there is a difference in price. Latex paint is much less expensive, but remember that if you use latex over the more expensive acrylic, the surface will have to be painted again much sooner.

Latex paint is an old formula for a type of waterbased paint. Acrylic is the more modern term for reformulated waterbased paints and therefore compatible. The only new addition to the painting system is the new waterbased enamels which can be applied over any previous system with the right undercoat, but has the ability of flexibility with a higher gloss (sheen) content than previous acrylics.

Any paint you apply to furniture, indoor or outdoor furniture, should have a strong and durable finish. A quality exterior acrylic enamel should last a long time to come if applied on top of a coat of exterior primer. If for some reason you don't want to use primer first, then make sure the surface of your furniture is thoroughly clean before you apply any paint. Mineral spirits works well on metal, wood and plastic. Rattan or bamboo should always be primed, as the paint alone will not last.

Use exterior primer and paint on all indoor and outdoor furniture. It's stronger and will last longer.

Enamel just means that the paint dries hard and is higher gloss. Enamel paint is available in oil-based and water-based versions. The water-based versions are available in 100% acrylics, vinyls and blends.
