During larger storms, especially those that spawn tornadoes, the updrafts are stronger and can cause much larger hail.

sleet is actually water when its in the clouds and it freezes on its way down. Hail is frozen already in the clouds and actually gets warmer on its way down but still is ice. UR WELCOME!!!
