Type 1 and Type 2 are caused by two different subtypes of the herpes virus. Type 2 is more likely to recur, and the average is six outbreaks in the first year of infection with Type 2. In contrast, many people with Type 1 cold sores or genital herpes don't get more than one outbreak. There are more people with evidence of prior infection with Type 1 than Type 2.
There is little difference in the two viruses.
There is virtually no difference. Type 1 is referred to as oral herpes; Type 2 as genital herpes.

∙ 11y agoNot much difference. They are both strains of the HIV virus and both can lead to AIDS and other opportunistic diseases. HIV-2 strain is found mostly in West Africa, with hardly any found in the US and other Western countries.
