Homozygous is when an individual has two identical genes at a locus. They could either be two dominant or recessive traits. For example AA is a homozygous dominant, whereas, aa is an homozygous recessive.

Heterozygous is when two genes for a trait do not match; it is when an individual has two different genes. In this case an individual will have a dominant gene and a recessive gene. An example of this would be Aa or aA.
