metals are used for horse shoes and keys with non metals you cannot make keys or horse shoes for horses to use as for keys the if if wood would just not work or break

This question will be answered only for elemets.
The properties of metals include
- electric conductivity
- luster
- mallubility (bendable)
- positive ionization
Silver is a metal. It conducts electricity (in fact is the best conductor at STP), it has luster (shiny), is malluable (can make ornaments out of it), and when it reacts forms positive ions.
Chlorine is a non-metal. It doesn't conduct electricity, it has no luster, isn't malluable(in fact doesn't even form a solid), and makes negetive ions (unless attacked by oxygen.)
Inbetween the metal and nonmetal is a curious dog-leg of elements called metaloids that show both metallic and non-metallic properties: Carbon, Silicon, Boron etc.
