An obsession is continual preoccupation with a person, place, thing, or activity. Compulsion is a powerful emotional urge to do a particular thing, usually repetitively.

Obsessive-Compulsive disorder stems from those two words, and involves preoccupation and action, taken together.

I believe that the difference between compulsive behavior and obsession is that compulsive behavior tends to include more than one thing, more like a lifestyle than a single obsession. I think that obsession usually just includes one thing that is habitually done repeatedly. Both are personality disorders so they are subcategories and therefore related. They are in different clusters (cluster B for narcissistic PD and cluster C for OCPD) but both can cause interpersonal difficulties.

Narcissistic personality disorder involves a grandiose view of self and self-centeredness, often due to low-self esteem. They are highly sensitive to criticism and other narcissistic injuries.

People with OCPD tend to be perfectionists who require high levels of rules, regulation, and order. They have a strong desire for control.

Obsessive-compulsive disoder is an axis I disorder where the individual has thoughts (obsessions) that cause anxiety and does actions (their compulsions) that relieve or reduce the anxiety.

Those with schizoid personality disorder (which is an axis II disorder) tend to have no interest in relationships, very few strong emotions, and a lack of interest in their everday life.
