A mechanical mouse has a ball & rollers on the bottom which moves the pointer. An optical mouse has a light instead, and you don't even need a mouse pad to use it.

An optical mouse is a mouse which uses an optical sensor to detect movement, as opposed to a mechanical mouse which does this mechanically.

A wireless mouse is a mouse which uses wireless technology in order to avoid having to be tethered to the computer by a wire. This is usually done through RF (radio-frequency) or bluetooth (a specific standardized type of RF) technology, but may also use IR (infra-red) technology.

It is possible (and quite common) for a mouse to be both wireless and optical.

There is no big difference in the way they work really. They both use a light beam to track movement over the surface.

The difference is that optical mouse uses LED (a diode) that emits the light and achieves sensitivity of 400 to 800 dots per inch (dpi).

Laser mouse uses a laser beam and is much more sensitive - it "sees" 2000 dots per inch, which can be either a blessing or a curse, depending on your needs.

Also, laser mouse can read on almost every surface you can imagine, while optical mouse can have issues on shiny or black surfaces.

I would say laser mouse's precision im comparison to optical is about the same of the optical mouse's precision to plain old mouse with a ball.

Laser mouses are much more expensive.

A mechanical mouse (or "ball mouse") tracks the users input by sensing the movements of a ball which rolls on the desktop surface. This is done using a pair of small wheels at a 90 degree angle from each other which contact the mouse and are moved by the mouses movements. These movements are translated electrical signals by servos and then transmitted to the computer.

An optical mouse tracks the users input by taking optical data from the desktop surface. This may consist of an optical sensor similar to the ones used in digital cameras, or may use laser diodes to detect tiny physical features of the desktop surface.

Optical mouses generally have less moving parts than mechanical mouses in addition they have much higher sensitivity and are useable on almost any surface. This makes optical mouses much more popular than mechanicals, as a result the use of mechanical mouses is on the decline.

Both the laser and optical mouse are almost similar in their functions and the main difference is that the laser mouse uses laser light while the optical mouse uses LED light. The laser mouse however has a higher tracking speed. It can also work on all surfaces while the optical mouse may have problems working on dark or shiny surfaces.

An optical mouse can be wireless or corded, the same can be said for ball mouses. 'Optical' just refers to how it detects mouse movement.

Where as a wireless is cord/wire less.

What is the difference between a laptop wireless optical mouse and a wireless laser optical mouse?

The laser wireless optical mouse has laser sensors to direct the mouse on the screen as without it is a roll ball used to do so.

What is the function of mechanical mouse?

A mechanical mouse is an input device, much like an optical mouse, but it uses a rollerball, or trackball, whereas an optical mouse has sensors on the bottom that detect movement, and make the cursor on the screen.

What are the advantages of opto mechanical mouse?

The laser of the optical mouse may bounce off certain colors and shapes on a mouse pad. There are no disadvantages to a optical mouse. The optical mouse just works better and smoother than the ball mouse, and you never have to worry about the ball getting dirty or hanging. I would suggest getting an optical mouse and throwing the ball mouse away.

What is the difference between optical and ball mouse?

A basic no-frills optical mouse will usually cost only a few dollars more than a basic no-frills mechanical mouse. There are many mouses on the market however which come with lots of frills, these are usually optical, and may well be very expensive.

What is a track ball mouse?

A "ball mouse" or mechanical mouse is a computer mouse which detects user inputs using a system of servos detecting the movements of a ball (inside the mouse) which rolls on the desk surface. The most common alternative, the "optical mouse" uses optical sensors to detect user inputs. The optical mouse is widely considered to be superior in all important respects, and is therefore becoming much more common then their mechanical cousins.

What exactly is a optical mouse?

An optical mouse works just like a regular mouse in that it is used to click on various things on the computer monitor. The only difference is that optical mouses can be used without a wire which makes for easier access.

Is laser mouse optical mouse?

There are quite some differences between an optical mouse and a laser mouse. One of the most noticeable differences is the type of rays coming out of the mouse. Now,we all know that from an optical mouse there is (usually) a red light coming out and on the other hand, the laser mouse does not produce such light. It produces an invisible laser beam which is harmless to humans. Also, they say, that laser mouses are much more precise than the previous generation mouses, 'thus making them much more valuable. And finally, you can use laser mouses on almost all surfaces (except glass, mirrors and air) which is quite useful in many situations. Of course, there are many people questioning which is better - the laser mouse or the optical mouse, but one thing is for certain - they may look the same, but they are definitely not the same thing.

Is an optical mouse better than a regular mouse?

"Better" is subjective. The major advantage an optical mouse, though, is that it is not mechanical-ball-based, so it will not clog up and not work. With a regular mouse, the little ball inside it accumulates dust and dirt, making the mouse not function unless cleaned.

An optical mouse is great! :D An optical mouse is great! :D

What is the average price of an optical computer mouse?

The price for an optical mouse varies depending on the brand, features and manufacturer. For a basic corded optical mouse the average price is about $10. For a wireless mouse the cost can range between $20 and $100 depending on the features. The average cost is about $50 for a quality wireless optical mouse.
