The word "priest" is primarily used to describe someone who preaches in the Catholic faith. The word "pastor" is more interchangeable & can be used to describe someone who preaches in any number of Christ-based religions. The work they do is fairly similar, preaching to, & teaching those Christianity.

∙ 16y agoThe title reverend is not used as much as it used to be. Most non Catholic ministers use the title pastor now but there are exceptions. The difference is where they are trained. The Catholic church calls their ministers priests while the other mainstream denominationis use the title reverend or pastor or minister.

∙ 16y ago"Pastor" is a function or occupation like mayor. "Reverend" is an honorific title like "Honorable." Suppose that Mr. Smith is a pastor and Mr. Jones is the mayor. The proper form of address would be "the Reverend Mr. Smith" and "the Honorable Mr. Jones." People ignorantly use "reverend" as a title by itself, and sometimes you even hear pastors introduce themselves that way--"I'm Reverend Smith"-- but it is no more appropriate than to refer to the mayor as "Honorable Jones'' or have him say to you "You can just call me "Honorable."

∙ 14y agoA priest is normally a roman catholic priest ordained by bishops, themselves coming down the line from the Pope, who is recognized in the roman catholic church as a direct descendant of Peter the apostle, who was appointed by Jesus to lead his church. A reverend seems to be the equivalent in other christian denominations but I believe it could also be used as a form of respect in front of some of the position in the church, not so sure on that one.
