they are both types of music. They can both have the exact chord progressions for one. You can just as easily play a 1, 3, 5 progression in a rock tune as you can in a classical piece. In fact, Bach was known for his basic jazz feel, which can be easily turned into rock, or compared; look at Blood Sweat and Tears or Chicago who are Rock/Jazz bands. You can also take a sweet arpeggio from a classical song and produce a great rock Ballad. A great example is the major pop/rock tune from the sixties called "Lovers Concerto" "How gentle is the Rain", etc. It was taken directly, no secret here, from an old classical minuet. The time signature was changed from 3/4 to 4/4 but the melody remained the same.

Well, this isn't really heavy metal, its screamo, but if you listen to BrokeNCYDE's music, their songs are the same as rap, same beats and lyrics, the lyrics are just screamed or yelled instead of said or sung.

There's few similiarities. There are different types of rap as same as there are different types of metal.

Some rap songs contain insults or curses, while some are clean and just want to bring the message.

Metal does not insult or curse, there are only a few exceptions.

All in all, there is a sub-genre of Metal that is called "Nu-Metal" which contains Metal combined with Rap. For reference check bands like Linkin Park (Old Linkin Park - songs like "Somewhere I belong", "Pushing me Away" or bands like System of a Down.
