What is the difference between the Socs and the Greasers in The Outsiders?

Answer:
The Soc (social climbers, socialites) are the west side rich kids. For fun they like to jump Greasers and throw beer blasts. They are rich and stuck up. They come from a predominately white collar lifestyle, characterized by their often "preppy" dress style. Khaki pants, madras (collared and checkered shirt) etc.

The Greasers are the east side, middle- and lower-class poor kids. They wore leather jackets and jeans. They slicked their hair back to make it greasy and darker (hence the name). They smoked kools and usually tried to stay out of fights. Most greasers have little or no respect for authority. When seen they were called "Dirty Troublemakers."
