What is the difference between the application server and internet information server?

Answer

An application server will run an application/s (database, GIS, email, productivity etc..) for a company or workgroup.

An Internet Information Server is Microsoft's Web Server environment. It may be running by itself on a server, a workstation (for smaller workgroups), or as one service/application running on an application server.

Cheers.
