Correct: But I'll add on. Marines are the first to fight. The Marines first were embellished to fight in the American Revolutionary War; 1770's. The Marine Corps Logo(The Bald Eagle on Planet Earth) and Motto, Semper Fidelis( Always Faithful) was adopted around the 1883. The Marines first Cadence, Hymn, was heard around 1886. The Marines have kept that Logo and Motto ever since, it's a sacred honor for those who fallen( Kia=Killed in Action) to give America our freedoms.

∙ 12y agoThe Marines are a smaller, expeditionary and amphibious force that uses the Navy to be always prepared for engagement. Thus the common saying "first to fight". The Army is much larger, and is the main component of the US Department of Defense. The Army uses much more powerful, but slower forces to maneuver and strike.
So, the marines are faster and more agile, the army is slower but stronger. that's oversimplified, but pretty much how it is

The Army has participated in major sea landings, as well. The Army is a much larger numerical force than Marines. The Marines are the oldest USA service.

∙ 13y agoTraditionally, Marines were centred more around Maritime operations, whereas the Army would be an exclusively land-based organisation. In recent years, Marine operations have been further inland, giving them more parallels with Army operations, but they still maintain their traditional Maritime role on top of it all. Unit composition between the two differs, and the history between the two differs, as well - while the Army has always been centred around land-based operation, Marines were initially a naval force responsible for boarding enemy ship, and have developed into their current form from that.
