X-rays use what are called X-rays...that was a given but MRIs use magnetic pulses instead of the X-rays. The difference is that the X-rays don't pass through bone (so you see the bone) and the magnetic pulses penetrate the entire flesh but bounce off every cell. This shows what the inside of the person looks like.

A MRI technician is almost the same as an x-ray technician. Except a MRI technician is just more detailed. Like a doctor and a surgeon. They are almost the same except that you will specialize in a certain area rather than being an x-ray technician

There is a huge difference between an MRI scanner and a chest X-Ray machine. It is like comparing apples to Oranges, as "MRI" stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging and uses magnetic fields. There is no radiation involved in this type of scan. A chest X-Ray machine uses radiation. The radiation is "beamed" through your chest onto a film plate behind or in front of you. The images obtained are completely different and also have completely different indications for use. Results obtained using these various modes of testing assist in determining the differential diagnosis of the patient.

MRI uses strong magnetic field and electromagnetic waves to create an image, while the x-ray imaging (regular x-ray like chest x-ray, or CT scan xray) reconstruct the image by finding how much x-ray was able to penetrate the body. For example, the x-ray can easy penetrate soft tissue like fat and muscle (looks dark on the film), while bone absorb large amount of the x-ray (looks white on the film).
