As far as 'importance' goes; there is no such thing as major or minor prophet. They are equally important since they are appointed by God.
The expression 'minor and major prophet' simply refers to the size of their writings. The books of Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel are much larger writings, when compared with Joel, Jonah, Haggai, Malachi, etc. --But-- they were all equally impartant messages for the peoples at the various times those prophets existed, since they span many years.

This classification is used with prophetic books in the Old Testament. There are twelve shorter books collectively referred to as the "Minor Prophets" and the remaining prophetic books in the Old Testament are considerably longer in length and referred to as "Major Prophets".

∙ 11y agoIt's just a loose label; and really an inappropriate one at that. The Bible itself does not designate any prophet of God's as 'minor' or 'major'.
Those expressions basically refer to the 'shorter' books penned by prophets; and the 'longer' books penned by other prophets. For example, Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel, are much longer books than Hosea, Jonah, and Haggai. But in NO WAY are they 'minor' as to importance. It doesn't matter if a prophecy is singular and short; or if a prophecy is in multiples and much lengthier.
