The difference between a narrative essay and a descriptive essay is that the narrative essay you use your point of view to tell the story and the descriptive you describe the person or the place or the event using vivid images that refer to the smell, touch, sound, taste, personality, and behavior, also, person job or hobbies, and you describe what you feel about the person throughout the use of all these categories. In another word when writing descriptive essay you show your reader not tell him using the senses of sight also.Try to give a lot of details for instance if you are describing a person give more details about the physical traits including his hair color, height, weight, eye color, skin smooth or rough.....put them in order from hair to feet.

Effective description creates a dominant impression, a mood, or an atmosphere that reinforces a writer's central purpose. While narrative tends to naturally include some description, and many descriptive pieces rely on narratives as anecdotes, illustrations, support for ideas, narrative presents action.

They are not the same! Narrative essay just tells about phenomenon and descriptive describes it in all details.

A narrative essay is one of the most personalized types of essay you are going to write. The reason is, even in the texts where you are supposed to express your opinion, you are not present as such - it is only your words and rather abstract opinions.

Narrative essay tells the reader a story - and most likely it is the story the author, which makes it seen and felt through your eyes. Therefore, the most typical features of this kind of writing are as follows:

  • It is told from a certain point of view, most often - that of the participant or an onlooker, but variations occur, e.g., book reports are also narrative essays. First person is most generally used.
  • It doesn't simply tell a story - it is supposed to do it with some purpose, to make a point and give supporting example.
  • Direct speech usage is also appropriate.
  • In short, it is similar to any work of fiction: it has plot, conflict, and characterization, makes use of details and descriptions, appeals to the reader's feelings.
