A formal document is usually sent when an entity is communicating with other external entities. A informal document is a document that is not officially recognized or controlled. Informal counseling consists of nothing more than pulling someone aside for a quiet word about some problem they're having. It can be done on the spur of the moment about something that happened only a second ago. In fact, this is probably the best use of this type of counseling. Often times Informal counseling is referred to as coaching. Informal counselors may or may not have formal training. Even a formally trained counselor will be an informal counselor when dealing with family, friends, or coworker. Some situations where informal counseling is used: ∙ A friend, family member, or co-worker is seeking guidance and/or suggestions about spousal issues, trouble with his or her children, or co-worker. ∙ A friend, family or co-worker asking for guidance with a drug or alcohol issue. Formal counseling consists of a master's and above, trained counselor. Counseling sessions are scheduled in an office setting most of the time but can be scheduled for in home visits and last for 50 minutes. The counselor provides objectively and tools to the client in order to reach goals agreed upon by the counselor and client. The relationship is collaborative but the counselor does not give advice or tell the client what to do. It is up to the client to use coping skills and tools to reach their goals with the assistance of the counselor.
