Third opinion - Race is just an archaic version of ethnicity. Black is an ethnicity, White is an ethnicity, so is Caucasoid. They're all ethnic constructions.
Fourth opinion- Race means subspecies. One can argue with that there are no 'subspecies' of the Human species, thus meaning that 'race' does not exist, leaving ethnicity as the only characteristic trait of the two in describing a human.

∙ 11y agoAlthough they are often considered to be synonymous, this not so. People of the same race share a biological ancestor. The word "race" is derived from a middle-French word for breed or lineage. The main distinction between ethnicity and race is that the former is one's identity with a group of people who share cultural traditions of a particular homeland or hearth, whereas the latter refers to one's ancestral lineage.
Another discrepancy regarding the term race is the fact that according to the single-origin theory of evolution, humankind is a single "race," making its meaning more along the lines of "species." This is in direct contrast with the loose usage of the term when it pertains to skin color and theories that people of different "races" are from different evolutionary backgrounds. Ethnicity on the other hand tends to refer to one's culture and nationality, both of which can change, yet another quality it has that race does not.
TL;DR: Essentially, race refers to an individual's special or otherwise ancestral origins, while ethnicityrefers to an individual's cultural or traditional background.
