Actually, people called Vietnamese cha gio "Vietnamese egg roll" because the Vietnamese cha gio does look somewhat similar to a Chinese egg roll. Their ingredients are originally completely different but makers sometimes use their ingredients interchangeably nowadays. Chinese egg rolls are wrapped in wheat paper while Vietnamese cha gio are wrapped in rice paper. Nowadays, many restaurants use wheat paper to wrap Vietnamese cha gio. Vietnamese cha gio main ingredient is meat with vegetable garnishment while the Chinese egg roll main ingredient is vegetable with some meat. Nowadays, many restaurants add a lot of meat to a Chinese egg roll to attract customers.
