if you just save something like a word document and you just click save it wont save the word document in the location you want to save it to where as if you click save as you choose a specific location to save a document.
"Save" means the file gets saved under its current name, in whatever folder it was saved before or the default folder for that program. "Save as" gives you the opportunity to save the file under a different name and/or in another folder.
Save, will save your current stat.
Save as, will allow you to change parameter.
This means that if you had an open text or picture:
Save, would save exactly what it is right now.
Save as, would allow you to change the name or, in the case of a picture, transfer as another file type (for example: as a jpg file instead of bmp file).
"Save" tells the application you are using to save any changes that may have been made to the current file. It will save the file using the same name that you opened the file with. If you have not yet provided a file name, for example you may have simply opened up Microsoft Word and started typing, you will be prompted to provide a name.
"Save As" tells the application to save the currently open file with a new name which the application will prompt you for.
Consider:
You open one.doc by double-clicking on it. It opens in Microsoft Word, you make some changes and click save. The document is saved under the file name 'one.doc'.
You open one.doc by double-clicking on it. It opens in Microsoft Word, you make some changes and click Save As. Word prompts you for a new name, you provide two.doc and the document is saved under the file name 'two.doc'. one.doc will be unchanged from when you originally opened it since you have not saved it. one.doc and two.doc are two completely separate files.
Essentially, Save As is a way of saving a file under a new name.
The difference between the "Save" and "Save as" buttons are as follows.
To save a document for the first time you need to select "Save as," because it has not been saved before, and so the computer doesnt know in which directory, folder, location you want to save the file on your hard drive.
The "Save" button is for if the document has been saved before, you have specified a save location. The computer will know where to save it. So it will simply re-save the document to that location.
"File Save As" will always ask you for the name and location you want to save the file as.If you already saved the file before, "File Save" will overwrite the previous file. Otherwise, it works exactly the same as "File Save As".
In other words, "File Save As" allows you to make a new copy of your file.
Save - saves the file with the same file-name (over-writing the existing file if there is one already on disc). Save as - allows the user to rename the file as you save it. This leaves the original file as it was before you started editing - and creates a new copy with any changes you've made.
main difference is because with Save you can update your saved and opened document without Save as dialog in explorer but to do this document must be already saved on hard drive
File save - allows the user to enter a new name for the file. File save as - gives the user the option to overwrite an existing file.
