There's no single hardest instrument to play in the marching band. It depends upon what "hard" is. If you mean hard as in most complicated music, Flute and piccolo would definitely win. But the hardest to physically carry would be tuba and base drums.

Flutes, Piccolos, Saxophones (usually alto, but sometimes there are marching bari or tenor saxes) and Clarinets sometimes march. High school bands take woodwinds, but some college bands don't, and drum corps never do. Mellophones, Sousaphones, Trombones, Drums (Quints, Snares, Bass drums, Cymbals) and Trumpets are always included. Sometimes there is a Pit in a marching band. A Pit won't march, but it can include Electric Guitars, Electric Basses, Oboes, Bassoons, and miscellaneous people who can't march because of an injury or they joined the band late or something.

All kinds of brass instruments are used. Although tubas are usually replaced with sousaphones or contras, and euphoniums/French horns are usually replaced with mellophones. Most woodwind instruments are used in college and high school bands, with the exception of double reeds given their dangerous nature if played while marching. Woodwinds are often (if not always) not allowed in Drum Corps though.

Percussion instruments of any/all varieties are welcome in any marching band setting.

Could you be in the marching band and have asthma?

It will be hard but it can be done. If you are a dancer you cant tho. But to play an instruments its fine. All it is is playing and marching. Nothing else. Im in marching band and have asthma. By the way just playing and marching is harder than it sounds, it is also more than nothing else. You have to think about where you are going and at what speed when. If you are not doing a wind instrument its a little easier because you dont use breath to play. It can be done

Is clarinet a jazz instrument?

As far as I know, I haven't seen a single clarinet in a jazz band (sure in a marching band, but not in jazz). My friends who play clarinet are also in the jazz band, but intead of playing their clarinets, their switch/use saxophones instead. So, no, I don't think clarinet is a jazz instrument.
