What is the effect of gravity in the digestion of food?

Answer:
Smooth muscle contractions continuously guide food down the alimentary canal, a process called peristalsis. Contrary to common thought, food does not move through you due to gravity (which is why you can swallow and digest food upside down). Therefore, gravity does not have much of an effect on digestion.
