The etiquette is the same for any party invitation. You address the invitation to those invited with correct titles, you never mention gifts, you mail them out 1-2 months in advance, you include information on how to RSVP, etc.

Six to eight weeks prior to the wedding. The latest craze is the 'save the date' post card couples send out about six months to a year in advance; to get on people's calendars once they have picked their date - this also serves as their announcement to family and friends.

How do you write on the wedding card to say not to attend the party?

The small card that comes with the wedding invitation you should write in it that you are sorry, but you can not attend. Then put the card in the self address envelope that already has a stamp on it and mail it off as soon as possible. If you know the person well then you could phone and let them know what you cannot attend even after sending the reply. Etiquette states if you are invited to a wedding and cannot attend you should still send a wedding gift as it is an honor to be invited to that person's wedding.

When do you send a wedding gift if you are not attending the wedding do you do it at the same time you mail the RSVP or closer to the wedding date?

It is only etiquette that when you have been given the honor of attending a wedding and for some reason you can't make it then you should send the RSVP back as soon as possible and that you are sorry you are unable to attend. Two weeks before the wedding (if you live out of town) then send the wedding gift to the bride's parent's home and addressed to the bride and groom as Mr. & Mrs. John Doe (example.)

How To Work Invitations?

Invitations are a tricky thing, whether they are for a wedding, dinner party or gala. Keep up on the latest etiquette to ensure you do not break any basic rules and embarrass yourself in front of your friends or family members. If you have received an invitation to an event, this simple guide should tell you how to best handle the associated responsibilitiesI am invitedOnce you receive the invitation in the mail, you should consider whether or not you can attend the event and RSVP. Generally, the invitation tells you how to respond. For weddings, the invitation generally includes an RSVP card that you can mail back in. Other invitations may request that you RSVP by email or phone. Try to respond as soon as possible, within three days of receiving the invitation. Many invitations have a date listed by which the host needs a response. It is a good idea to respond far before this date so that the host can give final counts to caterers and other hired help. Can I bring a guest? If the invitation says "plus one," then you may bring one guest with you to the event. This is considered proper on wedding invitations, but is not always the case with galas, dinner parties and other functions. If you have been offered a plus one, always make sure you RSVP for two if you plan on bringing a guest. If you are not offered a plus one, do not even think about asking. It is terribly impolite to ask to invite a guest.Receiving an invitation in the mail is always exciting. It means a fun event is coming up and you have a chance to attend. Make sure to follow these basic rules when you reply so everyone can have a great time.
