What is the etymology of Suriname's name?

Answer:
The name Suriname is thought to come from the name of a group called Surinen who inhabited the area before the arrival of Europeans. The Surinen were Arawak speaking Tainos, a group of people believed to originate either in the Amazon Basin or in the Colombian Andes. Arawak speakers were the natives encountered by Christopher Columbus when he first landed in the Americas.
