Correct. Black Sabbath is universally recognized as the first band to take jazz & blues-rock and deliberately infuse it with an overtly dark, Gothic/Horror element. This "Gothic Jazz" is the formula that became known as Metal. Prior to them, no one used this precise formula, despite the fact that it is easy to find numerous hard rock bands from that era with somewhat dark songs.

Actually, according to many music expects Blue cheer who released their first album in 1967 is considered the first metal band.
The term was actually first used in reference to Sir Lord Baltimore, but Black Sabbath is the most commonly cited as the original Heavy Metal band.
Iron Butterfly, Blue Öyster Cult, Alice Cooper and KISS were one of the first big American heavy metal bands
No (Because they are not a heavy metal band and they never use bad words)
Early make-up wearing Heavy Rock bands were "The Sensational Alex Harvey Band" and before that "The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown" and Alice Cooper. In each case only one member dressed up. One of the problems with answering the Question is defining Heavy Metal and Heavy Rock - lots of 60s and 70s acts wore make-up, but were they Heavy Rock? There is a reasonable argument for Kiss, but Motley Crue are definitely out of the running. The first 'Glam Metal' band ever, a year or more before Motley Crue, full "Big Hair" leather and make up, was Wrathchild. Not to be confused with the American band, this was the British Band formed in Evesham, England in 1980...
It should be understood that Matt Tuck is a person. He is the lead vocals and rhythm guitar player for the Welsh heavy metal band Bullet for My Valentine.
Quiet Riot's "Metal Health." It became number 1 on November 26, 1983, making Quiet Riot the first heavy metal band to have a top 5 hit ("Cum On Feel the Noize') and a number 1 album the same week. Source: wikipedia.org
I recently came across this band. Their name is The Berzerker and they hail from Australia. This is the fastest shredding band I have ever heard. They are twice as heavy as Slipknot and 4 times as fast. You can check them out on MySpace. I think they are the heaviest band I've ever heard and I've been a Metalhead for over 30 years( I'm 51 years old). The heaviest heavy metal genre is death metal and black metal or a subgenre of them such as brutal death metal. Doom metal as well can be quite heavy - especially funeral doom or death/doom which is often slower and "thick" sounding kind of heavy. I think Berzerker is fast and chaotic but fastest doesn't mean heaviest. It is all anyone's game as to what band plays the heaviest metal music and in the end all comes down to personal preference.
Slipknot easy, they are the best heavy metal band ever! PHSYYCOSOCIAL

The self-titled debut album from Black Sabbath. .................................................................................................................................................. That's a popular misconception, Australian Band, Lobby Lloyd and the Coloured Balls had an album called Heavy Metal Kids years before Black Sabbath.
Moonspell
i believe it was 1,592 single strokes and the fastest drummer was jorden jordison from the heavy metal band "Slipkont"
Pantera!
There is no information on the largest metal band saw ever made. It was said the saws are 4x6. It is equipped with a handle and large band saw for ripping lumber.

Yes metallica started the thrash metal genre and influenced thrash metal today When Metallica first came out they were the essence of thrash metal. But today they are the essence of hard rock. They no longer know what metal is.
