You have part called as pharynx when you look into the mouth by torch on backside. Upper part is connected to the nose by a wide passage. This part is also connected to middle ear by a small tube called asEustachiantube. Lower part is connected to two very important tubes. One goes to respiratory tract (Via Larynx and Trachea.) and second goes to digestive system. (Via Esophagus.) The tube going to respiratory tract liesin-frontof the tube than the tube which goes to stomach. So here, there is crossing between two tracts, respiratory and digestive. You take the respiration continuously and and this tract is kept open by the flap like structure called as 'Epiglottis'. During act of swallowing only this flap closes the way to respiratory tract. So that food should not go into respiratory tract and choke you. Apart from this pharynx play very important role in arresting the infections going to respiratory tract. For this there are circular ring of lymph nodes. ( Out of about 500 lymph nodes in your body about 300 lies in neck and above.)
pharynx connect nasal cavity and larynx and then trachea.
