This antibody will bind specifically to the antigen that initially activated the precursor B lymphocyte. Plasma cells will synthesise and secrete antibody molecules over their short life span of 4 to 5 days. The secreted antibodies circulate in the blood or lymph and bind to their complementary antigen, thus marking them for destruction by other mechanisms.
