Ceramic capacitors can be used anywhere a capacitor having very low internal parasitic inductance is required. Most commonly they are used as powersupply bypass capacitors. They are also sometimes used for coupling capacitors for HF signal amplifiers.

What is use of decoupling capacitor?

Difference between ceramic and electrolytic capacitors?

In ceramic capacitors the dielectric is a thin layer of ceramic and both plates are metal foil. These capacitors are unpolarized. These capacitors have negligible internal inductance or resistance. In electrolytic capacitors the dielectric is an ultra thin layer of corrosion on the surface of a metal foil plate and the other plate is an electrolyte paste. These capacitors are polarized and if connected backwards are likely to explode. These capacitors have significant internal inductance, making them bad filters of noise in the MHz range and above which requires ceramic capacitors.

Whether film capacitors can be replaced with ceramic or mica capacitor?

Film capacitors cannot be replaced with ceramic or mica capacitors if used for analog signal processing. However, mica capacitors can be replaced with ceramic capacitors in general.

Why you use capacitor in ic7805?

The manufacturer's data sheet actually recommends using two capacitors with any 3-terminal regulator in the 78xx family: a 0.33µF on the input and a 0.1µF on the output.the input capacitor functions mostly as a filter capacitorthe output capacitor functions mostly as a decoupling capacitorHowever both capacitors should be ceramic capacitors (to reduce parasitic inductance in the capacitors) so that they can operate efficiently at the high frequencies resulting from rapid circuit switching in the load (especially if the load consists of digital logic).

What is a monolithic ceramic capacitor?

A capacitor that consists of thin dielectric layers interleaved with staggered metal-film electrodes; after leads are connected to alternate projecting ends of the electrodes, the assembly is compressed and sintered to form a solid monolithic block. -From http://www.answers.com/topic/monolithic-ceramic-capacitor?cat=technology

What is an unpolarized capacitor?

A capacitor that does not have a designated + and - side. Electrolytic capacitors are usually polarized. Ceramic capacitors are not.

How do capacitors classified?

capacitors are classified on the basis of dielectric material used inside it. For example the electrolytic capacitor consist electrolyte as dielectric mica capacitor consist mica as dielectric between plates and ceramic capacitor consist ceramic as dielectric.

What is the response of ceramic capacitor in MHz and GHz Range frequencies?

That depends on the value of the capacitor and other components in the circuit.

Why it is necessary to connect ceramic disc capacitor across filter capacitor?

The filter capacitor has inductance and is therefore not very responsive to short term transients, i.e. fast rising or falling current edges. The ceramic disk capacitor, on the other hand, has very little inductance, and therefore is very responsive to short term transients. It is normal "best practices" to connect a small ceramic disk capacitor at each IC's Vcc terminal while also using bulk capacitance in the power supply and at various other places. For the same reason, you want a ceramic disc at the main filter capacitor in the power supply.
